Cold Weather Drives Up Dry Fruit Prices in Quetta

Quetta:As the temperature drops in Quetta, the demand for dry fruits has surged, leading to an increase in prices. With the onset of colder weather, the prices of popular dry fruits like *chilgouza* (pine nuts), dry figs, and almonds have witnessed a significant rise.

According to the Meteorological Department, Quetta recorded a minimum temperature of 1°C today, with clear skies and dry weather adding to the chill in the air. As winter sets in, residents have turned to dry fruits, driving up their demand and subsequently, their prices.

In Quetta’s local markets, *chilgouza* (pine nuts) is being sold at an astonishing rate of PKR 14,000 per kilogram. Other dry fruits are also seeing similar price hikes, with dry figs selling for PKR 4,000 per kilogram, cashews at PKR 3,600 per kilogram, and pistachios priced at PKR 3,000 per kilogram. Raisins are being sold for PKR 1,600 per kilogram, while almonds range from PKR 1,600 to 2,000 per kilogram, and walnuts are priced between PKR 1,000 to 1,200 per kilogram.

The sharp increase in dry fruit prices is attributed to the seasonal rise in demand, with many people opting for these energy-rich foods to help combat the winter chill.
