CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Orders Operational Plan to Combat HIV in Tunsa

Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has directed the authorities to prepare an operational plan to address the spread of HIV in Tunsa. According to hospital administration, another child has been confirmed to be infected with the HIV virus, bringing the total number of affected children to 107. The hospital is conducting daily screenings for children and other individuals.
In response to the crisis, a joint mission involving UNICEF, WHO, and the Punjab Health Department has been established under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The mission will propose strategies for controlling and preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.
From April 7 to April 14, the joint mission will conduct history tracing of the affected children. Meanwhile, although medications have been sent by the AIDS Control Program, the necessary medical staff has not yet arrived. Currently, hospital staff and doctors are taking care of the HIV patients. Once the AIDS Control Program’s team arrives, a separate ward will be established.
Maryam Nawaz has emphasized that no negligence or shortage will be tolerated in the treatment of children affected by HIV/AIDS.
