Clashes Between Police and Baloch Unity Committee Protesters in Quetta

Quetta:On Saturday, reports emerged of fresh clashes between the police and protesters from the Baloch Unity Committee in Quetta. The committee announced a postponement of its sit-in after the police launched an operation against the protesters sitting on a sit-in at Saryab Road. The police used tear gas shells and baton-charged the demonstrators, who responded by throwing stones.

It is important to note that the Quetta police took action against the protesters on Saryab Road, arresting Baloch Unity Committee leader Dr. Mah Rang Baloch, Beebo Baloch, and five other individuals. They were detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for one month and sent to Quetta District Jail.

In addition, protests were held in various parts of Balochistan in response to the arrest of Baloch Unity Committee leaders and the death of three individuals. A shutter-down strike and wheel-jam protests were observed in several areas, including Quetta, Saryab, Khuzdar, Wadh, Mastung, Kalat, Mangchar, Gwadar, Panjgur, and Turbat. Traffic in these areas remained lighter than usual.

As part of the central appeal by the Baloch Unity Committee, protests were also held on the Quetta-Karachi Highway. The protesters blocked the highway at Bhawani, leading to a complete traffic halt.
