China Makes History with 6G Laser Transmission from Satellite to Earth

Islamabad:China has made history by sending 6G laser transmission from a satellite to Earth, marking a significant milestone in telecommunications. China’s aerospace company, **Cheng Guang Satellite Technology Co.,** claimed that last week it successfully transmitted data from a satellite to Earth with an image transmission rate of 100GB per second during a 6G trial.

This new transmission speed is ten times faster than the previous record, according to the company. The data was sent from the **Jilin 1** satellite network, positioned in low Earth orbit.

### **Breakthrough in Transmission Speed**
Wang Henghong, head of the company’s laser communication department, explained that at a transmission speed of 100 Gbps, it is possible to download 10 full-length movies in just one second. The company plans to integrate laser communication into all **117 Jilin 1 satellites** by 2025.

### **Previous Achievements and 6G Progress**
China’s achievement is not the first in the 6G domain. In November 2020, China launched the world’s first 6G satellite into Earth’s orbit. However, this recent development marks a major success in sending 6G satellite transmissions to Earth, a significant step in the evolution of global communication systems.

### **Key Difference Between 5G and 6G**
One of the fundamental differences between 5G and 6G lies in the **electromagnetic spectrum frequency bands** used. While 5G signals typically operate between the **6 GHz and 40 GHz** bands, 6G will utilize higher frequency bands, ranging from **100 GHz to 300 GHz**, offering unprecedented speed and bandwidth capabilities.

China’s successful 6G laser transmission from satellite to Earth is a groundbreaking step towards the future of global communications, and it underscores the nation’s leadership in technological advancements in space and telecommunications.
