Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti Visits Gwadar, Briefed on Ship Breaking Yard Project

Quetta: Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, visited Gwadar, accompanied by elected regional parliamentarians and the Chief Secretary of Balochistan. During the visit, he was briefed on the proposed site for the Ship Breaking Yard in the coastal area of Surbandan, located near Gwadar.
The Chief Minister directed the preparation of a detailed report assessing the benefits and potential drawbacks of the Ship Breaking Yard project for the local population. He emphasized the need for a thorough review of all aspects of the project, including the environmental and social impact, and recommended hiring consultants for a comprehensive evaluation.
Mir Sarfraz Bugti stressed that local representatives and the community must be consulted before the implementation of any project. He specifically mentioned that the concerns of local fishermen must be addressed, warning that proceeding without resolving these issues would be futile. He assured that no decision would be made contrary to the public interest and that a final decision would only be taken after extensive consultations with all stakeholders.
During the visit, the Chief Minister also expressed his strong disapproval of illegal trawling in the coastal areas. He warned that if the situation persists, marine life could be wiped out in the coming years. He called for stringent measures to halt illegal trawling, which he described as a major threat to the region’s marine ecosystem.
