Islamabad: Chief Justice Amir Farooq of the Islamabad High Court has raised serious concerns about the worsening law and order situation in the federal capital, drawing parallels to the rising crime rates in Karachi. During the hearing of the recovery case of lawyer Intizar Punjutha, he revealed that even his acquaintances have received extortion notes, underscoring the alarming rise in street crime and cases of missing persons.
Justice Farooq emphasized the urgent need for action, stating, “The law and order situation in Islamabad is extremely poor, and this should not be happening in a civilized society.” He noted that the mental and physical state of the recently recovered lawyer is still concerning and called for a comprehensive police investigation in the coming days.
He urged the Additional Attorney General to examine the reasons behind the increasing incidents of missing persons, reiterating the necessity to treat these cases as kidnappings for ransom and to implement measures to prevent such occurrences. Justice Farooq also expressed dismay at the public sentiment surrounding these issues, describing them as a source of embarrassment for institutions and society at large.
