Quetta:After 304 days of continuous sit-in protests in Chaman, demonstrators’ demands have been met by the government, signaling an end to the prolonged standoff. Addressing the crowd on the protest stage, Anayatullah Kasai announced that the old border system would be reinstated, facilitating easier movement to and from Afghanistan with the revival of identity cards and passes. Negotiations between the government and protest leaders have reportedly led to a fundamental agreement, promising a mechanism for public transit across the border and reinstating previous employment protocols. Furthermore, following successful talks, several arrested protest leaders were released by Quetta’s Crime Branch late last night. The protest leaders were pivotal figures during the 5th June attack on the polio team and subsequent government intervention, which led to their arrests.
