CDA Announces Temporary Suspension of Water Supply from Khanpur Dam to Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced the temporary suspension of water supply from the Khanpur Dam to Islamabad. According to CDA officials, the annual cleaning of the 18 to 20 kilometers long canal, which is the main source of water for the city, will begin on February 10 and continue until February 22.

During this period, the water supply from Khanpur Dam to Islamabad will be completely halted. However, CDA has assured that the Sangjani Water Treatment Plant will continue to provide approximately 4 million gallons of water per day from stored reserves. This supply will be 60% less than the normal supply, which is typically 10 million gallons per day. As a result, several sectors, including D-12, G-10, G-11, F-10, F-11, and parts of G-9, will experience a shortage of water.

Additionally, during the cleaning of the canal, the central water treatment plant at Sangjani will also undergo maintenance. CDA has advised residents in the affected areas to minimize their water usage from February 10 to 22 and to store water in their tanks.

CDA has assured that every effort will be made to ensure the supply of alternative water sources to the affected sectors. However, they have urged the citizens to cooperate and reduce water consumption during this period.

The authority has also warned citizens against using water wastefully, such as washing vehicles and floors, during the cleaning campaign. Failure to comply could result in heavy fines.

Due to the lack of rainfall during the winter season, water supply from the dams has already been reduced to conserve the existing reserves until the upcoming monsoon season.

In case of an emergency, citizens can contact the CDA’s water supply helpline at 03357775444 via WhatsApp or call the tanker complaint numbers at 03361117255 or 0519106085 for assistance.
