Bushra Bibi Submits Undertaking to Ensure Presence at Next Hearing in £190 Million Case

Islamabad: An undertaking has been submitted to the court by Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, assuring her presence at the next hearing in the £190 million corruption case. This follows the absence of Bushra Bibi at the recent hearing, where PTI founder Imran Khan was presented in court. Senior defense lawyer, Barrister Salman Safdar, presented a crucial undertaking, guaranteeing that Bushra Bibi will appear in court at the next hearing.
During the hearing, Barrister Safdar assured the court that Bushra Bibi would be present for all subsequent proceedings. The defense lawyer also provided an undertaking to record statements under section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code and to complete the arguments in three hearings. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) lawyers did not object to the undertaking, and the court accepted it, adjourning the hearing.
Court Proceedings:
Barrister Salman Safdar mentioned that Bushra Bibi’s pleader was also present outside jail, but NAB Prosecutor General Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi clarified that Bushra Bibi must appear in court to formally appoint her pleader. Abbasi emphasized that the prosecution had no intention of rushing the case, but also reminded the court that it had been more than a year since the case started. He pointed out that the defense had been given eight opportunities to record statements under section 342 and 38 chances to cross-examine the investigating officer.
Request for Exemption from Personal Appearance:
Bushra Bibi’s lawyers filed a request for her exemption from personal appearance, which was met with objections from NAB lawyers. NAB also submitted a report on the execution of Bushra Bibi’s non-bailable arrest warrants, stating that despite their efforts, she was not found at her address.
The court upheld the non-bailable arrest warrants and issued fresh notices to the surety, while adjourning the case until December 5th.
