BNP Condemns Attack on PTI Convoy at D-Chowk, Demands Investigation
Quetta:The leader of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and Member of the National Assembly, Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal, has strongly condemned the recent attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers’ convoy at D-Chowk in Islamabad, which involved heavy firing, shelling, and the torching of vehicles, resulting in the loss of several lives. Sharing a statement on social media platform X, Mengal expressed his grave concern over the violence, describing it as an assault on democracy and basic human rights.
The BNP leader stated that in the so-called democratic era, the use of fascist tactics, killings, and inhumane actions should be condemned in the strongest terms. He emphasized that every citizen, regardless of their political affiliation, has the constitutional right to peacefully protest and hold rallies, including at D-Chowk, which is considered a key public space in the capital.
Mengal further criticized the government’s actions, pointing out that peaceful protests should not be met with violence. He argued that if PTI leaders had been allowed to stage their protest peacefully, it would have caused no harm. Instead, the government’s intolerance and lack of forbearance resulted in a tragic incident, with all coalition parties being equally responsible for the violence.
The statement also urged international human rights organizations to raise their voices against the undemocratic and violent actions taken against peaceful protestors. The BNP extended its full solidarity with the PTI leadership and the victims, vowing to continue speaking out against such inhuman actions at every forum.
Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal concluded by calling for a thorough investigation into the incident and urged that those responsible for the attack be held accountable. He also expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. The BNP reaffirmed its commitment to standing by the people and opposing any form of injustice.
