BNP Chief Akhtar Mengal Resigns from National Assembly, Expresses Lack of Confidence in Government

Quetta / Islamabad: Akhtar Mengal, the leader of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), has resigned from his seat in the National Assembly, citing his inability to address the issues faced by his people. Mengal expressed his profound dissatisfaction with the current political system, stating that the government exists only in name and that the political situation has become unbearable.
In a press conference outside the Parliament House, Mengal declared, “I am resigning from the assembly today. I have decided this without informing anyone beforehand, and I am announcing it now.” He added, “I have not been able to do anything for my people. After assessing the conditions in Balochistan, I made this decision. I am declaring my lack of confidence in the state, the president, and the prime minister.”
Mengal criticized the government for its lack of interest in Balochistan’s issues, stating, “Whenever I start discussing these problems, there is a blackout. The country only has a nominal government now. This politics is so disheartening that I might as well open a fritter shop.”
He apologized to his 65,000 voters, acknowledging their frustration. Mengal emphasized, “If you disagree with my statements, please listen patiently. If you still find my words wrong, I accept any punishment. Even if I am encountered or killed outside Parliament, the issue should still be heard.”
Mengal’s resignation, submitted to the National Assembly Secretariat, was received by the Secretary of the National Assembly. He expressed concern that Balochistan’s issues are slipping away and lamented the lack of significant discussion on the matter.
