BlaWAL BHUTTO ZARDARI EXPRESS CONCERN OVER RISING VIOLENCE IN KURRAM DISTRICT, KP
Islamabad:Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation in Kurram District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). In a statement, Bilawal stated that the district was “burning” and the KP government seemed to be “missing in action.” He pointed out that in the past three days, 80 civilians had been killed, and people were unable to leave their homes due to the ongoing violence.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for failing to ensure the safety of citizens in the province and assured that the PPP would play its part in restoring peace. He called on the authorities to take immediate action to protect the lives of innocent civilians.
The violence in Kurram District, which has been ongoing for the past three days, has resulted in the deaths of 75 people and left more than 80 others injured. The latest incident occurred on Thursday, when armed individuals attacked passenger vehicles in a convoy in the Ochat area of Kurram. The attack claimed the lives of 45 people, worsening the already tense security situation in the region.
In response to the violence, KP’s Information Minister, Barrister Syed Saif, announced that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between the warring factions in Kurram. He confirmed that after a meeting with tribal elders, a seven-day ceasefire had been agreed upon. The government, he stated, was working on ensuring the ceasefire holds and peace is restored in the area.
