Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Vows to Stand with People on Canal Project, Not Shahbaz Sharif

Gaddhi Khuda Bakhsh:Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has vowed that if the public opposes the Canal projects, PPP will stand with the people, not with Shahbaz Sharif. Speaking at a rally in Gaddhi Khuda Bakhsh, Bilawal paid tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and highlighted the historic achievements of the PPP in the past few decades.

He remarked that PPP had secured a historic victory by getting Pakistan’s highest honor, the Nishan-e-Pakistan, for Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, making him the first Pakistani to receive this distinction. Bilawal also lauded the efforts of his father, Asif Ali Zardari, for bringing justice to Bhutto, stating that the courts had already declared Bhutto innocent and, after 50 years of struggle, the law of the land had also declared him innocent.

Bilawal emphasized that his father, Asif Zardari, restored the 1973 Constitution to its original form and fulfilled the promise of “Roti, Kapra, Makan” through programs like the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). He further acknowledged that Zardari’s 18th Amendment had transferred power to the people, with Sindh now leading the country in health sector reforms.

Speaking about PPP’s initiatives for the poor, Bilawal said that under Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s leadership, the landless poor were given land ownership. Now, through the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program, PPP is providing homes and land to the underprivileged.

Regarding the canal project, Bilawal urged the government to listen to the voices of the people of Sindh and Punjab, asserting that the equitable distribution of water is a fundamental right. He made it clear that if the people oppose the canal projects, PPP will stand firmly with them. Bilawal also called on Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to withdraw the controversial canal project, stating that PPP would not support any decisions that harm the public.

Bilawal reminded the audience that when the canal project was first proposed, PPP was the only political force that raised its voice against it, while others remained silent. He promised that PPP would continue to stand with the people and ensure that the government does not make any irresponsible decisions regarding such critical issues.

He also recalled PPP’s successful efforts during the recent floods, where the party advocated for international aid by emphasizing that the damages were caused by climate change, a responsibility not borne by Pakistan alone.
