Bangladesh Court Issues Arrest Warrant for Former UK Minister Tulip Siddiq Over Alleged Corruption

A Bangladesh court has issued an arrest warrant for former British Minister for Economic Affairs, Tulip Siddiq, on charges of corruption. The accusations include illegally acquiring land in Dhaka’s diplomatic area and involvement in a £4 billion alleged scam related to a nuclear deal, which is said to have occurred during the tenure of her aunt, Sheikh Hasina Wazed, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Siddiq, who is also a Member of Parliament in the UK, resigned from her post in January 2025 after corruption allegations were made public. However, she has strongly denied the charges, calling them politically motivated and part of a vendetta. Her legal team insists that Siddiq never acquired any land in Bangladesh nor caused any harm to anyone, labeling the case as politically driven.
The arrest warrant adds to growing tensions between the UK and Bangladesh, as the case continues to unfold.
