Bangladesh Cancels Internet Bandwidth Transit Agreement with India

In a significant move, Bangladesh’s interim government has decided to cancel its internet bandwidth transit agreement with India. According to media reports, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has decided to end the plan that allowed Bangladesh to serve as a transit point for internet bandwidth to India’s northeastern states.

The Bangladeshi Ministry of Telecommunications stated that the decision was taken due to the lack of economic benefits from the agreement. The deal, initially aimed at improving digital connectivity in the remote areas of India’s northeast, will now be discontinued.

As a result of this move, internet connectivity in India’s northeastern states is expected to slow down, potentially impacting users in regions that heavily rely on bandwidth from Bangladesh for internet access. The cancellation marks a shift in the digital cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
