Balochistan Leads Population Growth Rate in Pakistan
Quetta:Balochistan has emerged with the highest population growth rate in Pakistan, according to a report by the Statistics Department. With an annual growth rate of 3.2%, Balochistan’s population expansion surpasses that of Sindh (2.57%) and Punjab (2.53%). This revelation comes as Pakistan’s population reaches 241.49 million, making it the world’s fifth most populous country.
The report further highlights that if the current growth rate continues, Pakistan’s population could double by 2050. Pakistan has now joined the top 30 countries globally with the fastest population growth rates, exceeding 27 other nations.
Statistics indicate that 79% of Pakistan’s population is under 40 years of age, marking it as the youngest large population globally. Moreover, Balochistan’s demographic trends are reflective of its rapid urbanization and population influx.
In terms of gender distribution, the report states that Pakistan’s population comprises 51.48% males and 48.51% females. The average household size stands at 6.30 persons. Additionally, Pakistan is predominantly Muslim, with 96% of its population adhering to Islam.
Regarding energy consumption, the report reveals that 84% of households use electricity, while 8% utilize solar energy. The country boasts 3.83 million residential buildings, accommodating a diverse populace that includes 126,790 Afghan and Bengali nationals.
The findings underscore the need for sustainable population management strategies to mitigate the challenges associated with rapid urbanization and demographic shifts in Pakistan, particularly in regions like Balochistan experiencing accelerated growth.
