Quetta:The recent decision by the Balochistan High Court to transfer control of checkposts from the Frontier Corps (FC) to the civil administration and to address issues related to public transport on National Highways has been positively received by representatives of the transport sector in Balochistan.
Transport representatives, including Mir Mahmood Khan Badini, Mir Saeed Ahmed Lahri, Haji Abdul Malik Mohammad Hassani, and others, have expressed their appreciation for the court’s ruling. They emphasized that if each institution performs its duties within its mandate, it would be a positive development.
The transport sector leaders have also appealed to the court to take note of the numerous customs and joint checkposts on National Highways, particularly on the N-40 route. They argue that only one anti-smuggling checkpost is necessary per route and request that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Ministry of Interior be mandated to remove the excess anti-smuggling checkposts.
They pointed out that the customs act should remain under the purview of customs authorities alone and not be delegated to other security agencies, whose primary role is maintaining law and order. The transport representatives believe that anti-smuggling duties should be exclusively handled by customs officials, with support from other agencies only as needed.
The statement stresses that law enforcement, including customs, should focus on preventing dangerous materials and prohibited items at border points rather than cluttering National Highways with multiple checkposts. They have called on the Balochistan High Court to address this fundamental issue and ensure the implementation of its directives.
