Balochistan Government Faces Challenges in Improving School Infrastructure

Quetta:According to the Balochistan Department of Education, the province is home to a total of 15,270 government schools. However, significant infrastructure issues persist across many of these schools. Of the total number, 10,285 schools lack electricity, while 9,014 schools do not have access to clean drinking water. Additionally, 6,912 schools are without toilet facilities, and 5,996 schools do not have boundary walls. Shockingly, around 3,000 schools continue to operate under the open sky, highlighting the lack of basic infrastructure.

In response to these challenges, the provincial government has allocated a development budget of Rs. 50 billion over the past five years to improve the education sector. For the current fiscal year, over Rs. 25 billion has been earmarked specifically for school infrastructure improvements, with the aim of addressing these critical gaps and enhancing educational facilities across the province.
