Balochistan Food Authority Imposes Fines on Over 50 Food Centers in Ongoing Crackdown on Substandard Products

Quetta: The Balochistan Food Authority (BFA) has imposed fines on over 50 food centers across various districts during an ongoing crackdown against the preparation and sale of substandard and non-compliant food items. According to a spokesperson for the BFA, the authority’s operational teams carried out inspections in several districts including 6 centers in Jiwan, 4 in Osta Muhammad, 6 in Khuzdar, 7 in Kharan, and 29 in Quetta.
The fines were levied for a range of violations, including non-compliance with hygiene standards, adulteration of milk and other products, storage of expired goods, and the absence of necessary licenses. The inspection covered a wide range of establishments, including general and departmental stores, milk shops, hotels, naan shops, fast food corners, bakeries, vinegar factories, and meat shops. During the inspections, expired food items and banned products were discovered, seized, and destroyed on the spot.
To ensure milk quality, special milk safety and zonal teams of the BFA collected samples from over 100 shops in the affected districts and conducted tests on-site. Several milk vendors were penalized after tests confirmed adulteration in the samples. Furthermore, despite repeated warnings and previous guidelines, action was also taken against multiple centers for selling food products without licenses.
The Balochistan Food Authority has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the provision of safe and quality food to the public. The authority made it clear that it will continue its operations to curb the sale of substandard food and will take strict measures against those violating food safety laws.
