Balochistan Food Authority Cracks Down on Unhygienic and Unsafe Food Supply

Quetta:The Balochistan Food Authority has imposed fines on 19 food and beverage establishments, including hotels, during a crackdown termed “Operation Clean Plate” for providing substandard and hazardous food during the Eid-ul-Adha festivities. According to a spokesperson for the authority, violations included inadequate sanitation practices in hotels, the use of harmful food colors in food preparation, and the presence of insects in kitchen areas. Dairy vendors were penalized for adulterating milk with skimmed milk powder and improper storage of milk and yogurt.

Additionally, bakery owners were fined for the presence of excessive expired products, the use of newspapers in packaging final products, and improper personal hygiene practices among workers. During inspections, all confiscated expired and prohibited items were subsequently disposed of.

The crackdown comes as part of the authority’s efforts to ensure food safety and hygiene standards across Balochistan, particularly during festive seasons when food consumption increases significantly.
