Quetta: In a joint appeal to the government, Asghar Khan Tareen, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of Balochistan Assembly, Rahmat Saleh Baloch, Deputy Parliamentary Leader of the National Party, Dr. Muhammad Nawaz Kibzai, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Health of the Provincial Assembly, Mir Zabid Reki, Chairman of the Social Welfare Committee, Haji Ghulam Dastagir Badini, Chairman of Mines and Minerals, and Provincial Assembly member Khair Jan Baloch have called for urgent action against alleged unrest and corruption at Balochistan Women’s University.
They have raised concerns over reported unrest among students and teaching staff, citing instances of corruption, illegal recruitments, and the replacement of five registrars in three years. The officials have taken note of these issues and emphasized the need for immediate removal of the current Vice Chancellor and appointment of a competent and impartial individual in order to restore stability and ensure quality education at the province’s sole women’s university.
Following a meeting with Governor Balochistan during the recent visit to Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University, where they held a protest sit-in with teaching staff and students, the committee chairs expressed gratitude for resolving the peaceful protest. They underscored in their statement that Balochistan already faces a deficit in modern and standard education, and further deterioration of the province’s only women’s university is unacceptable.
The ongoing actions, they argue, are leading towards the university’s destruction, including allegations of corruption, corrupt practices, illegal recruitments, and frequent changes in leadership which have negatively impacted the educational environment, particularly for female students.
Therefore, they have urged the provincial government and authorities to take immediate steps to safeguard the university from further damage, remove the Vice Chancellor responsible for policies detrimental to education and dignity, and prioritize improvements that uphold educational standards and administrative integrity.
