Baloch Students Organization Condemns BHC’s Ban on Political Activities in Educational Institutions

The central spokesperson of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) has expressed grave concern over the recent decision by the Balochistan High Court to impose a ban on political activities in educational institutions. The spokesperson termed the ruling not only unjust but also an attempt to stifle the already limited democratic space in Balochistan, further tightening the environment of civic freedoms in the province.

In the statement, the spokesperson stated, “In a region like Balochistan, where the violation of civil liberties has become the norm, the expectation from the courts is to protect human rights and facilitate the freedom of expression. However, in this case, the court has deviated from its fundamental responsibility and provided a legal justification for state oppression.”

The spokesperson emphasized that renowned educational institutions around the world allow students to engage in political activities to help cultivate future leaders. In contrast, the ban on political activities in Balochistan is not only contrary to democratic traditions but also severely impacts the intellectual and creative development of students.

In a region as underdeveloped as Balochistan, politics has been the primary means for students to defend their rights and address social issues. Student organizations have always functioned as a nursery for political leadership, and placing restrictions on them will not only affect the academic environment but also open the door to corruption and lack of transparency within educational institutions.

The Baloch Students Organization (BSO) has outright rejected this one-sided decision, considering it a direct attack on the rights and freedom of students in Balochistan. The statement further elaborated that the ruling will add to the already difficult conditions faced by students who are subjected to enforced disappearances, constant harassment, and profiling. “This decision attempts to legitimize the ongoing repression against students, depriving them of their democratic rights, and having deep adverse impacts on their academic future,” the spokesperson added.

The BSO has called on the Balochistan High Court to reconsider its decision and take steps to restore the freedom of expression and political activities within educational institutions. The organization also appealed to all student bodies, social activists, and aware citizens to raise their voices against this unfair ruling.

“We remain committed to the constitutional and democratic struggle for the protection of students’ educational and political rights. We are ready for joint political resistance against any such action that threatens the rights and freedoms of students in Balochistan,” the statement concluded.
