Australia Captain Pat Cummins Likely to Miss ICC Champions Trophy Due to Injury

Australia’s cricket captain, Pat Cummins, is likely to miss the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy due to an ankle injury. Cummins has not yet resumed bowling, and in his absence, Steve Smith is currently captaining the team in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka.

Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, has expressed serious concerns about Cummins’ fitness and confirmed that discussions have taken place with both Steve Smith and Travis Head regarding potential captaincy options. McDonald stated that with Cummins’ injury, the likelihood of him missing the Champions Trophy is high.

The head coach further mentioned that with Cummins unavailable, the team will need a new captain, and talks with Smith and Head are ongoing. McDonald also indicated that the situation will become clearer in the next few days after medical reports are received.

Australia’s ODI squad is set to depart for Sri Lanka on Thursday, but Cummins will not be part of the tour. Meanwhile, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has already been ruled out of the Champions Trophy due to fitness issues.
