Atta tarar Criticizes PTI for Failing to Address Security Issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad:Minister for Information, Ata Tarar, has strongly criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for its failure to maintain law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), particularly in the province’s tribal areas like Kurram.

In a recent statement, Ata Tarar questioned what the KP government was doing when Kurram urgently needed attention and security measures. He pointed out that while PTI may have had friendly ties with the Taliban, they should have also taken responsibility for curbing these alliances and addressing the growing security challenges.

Tarar emphasized that maintaining law and order in provinces is the responsibility of the police. He questioned why PTI did not take proactive steps, such as providing training to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) with military support, as was done in Punjab.

He further criticized PTI’s lack of focus on resolving public issues in the province, stating that merely making speeches and showing military displays would not solve the problems of the common people. Despite receiving equal funding as other provinces, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has faced a budget deficit of Rs. 152 billion, according to the Information Minister.

The situation in Kurram remains tense, with no agreement yet reached between the government and the Grand Peace Jirga on securing peace in the region. One party has requested an extension until Tuesday to finalize the peace deal.
