Apple May Drop Support for iPhone XR, XS, and Other Models with iOS 19 Update

Apple is preparing to unveil the new iOS 19 at the “Worldwide Developers Conference” (WWDC) in June 2025. Ahead of this significant event, a new report has surfaced detailing the list of devices that will be compatible with the upcoming update. According to the report, Apple may drop support for several older models, including the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, meaning these devices may not receive the new iOS 19 update.
The iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max, which were launched during Apple’s September 2018 event, are powered by the A12 Bionic chip. Apple is expected to discontinue support for this chipset, which could exclude these models from the iOS 19 update. If these rumors hold true, iPhone 11 and newer models, including the iPhone SE (2020) and later, will be eligible for the iOS 19 update.
However, it’s important to note that not all devices will receive the same features. Last year, Apple introduced the “Apple Intelligence” AI suite, available exclusively for the iPhone 16 lineup and iPhone 15 Pro models, which run on the A17 Pro chip or higher.
The report also suggests that Apple may end support for some iPad models, including the 7th generation iPad (2019), which uses the A10 Fusion chip, meaning it might miss out on the iPadOS 19 update.
This new report contradicts an earlier claim that all iPhone models running iOS 18 would be compatible with iOS 19. As the public release of the update is still months away, there could be changes to Apple’s plans, and it’s important to follow this development with caution.
