Anwar Maqsood Apologizes for Controversial Remarks on Pakistan’s Armed Forces, Denies Kidnapping Rumors
Karachi: Legendary Pakistani writer, humorist, and television host Anwar Maqsood has apologized for his controversial remarks about the Pakistan Armed Forces and denied rumors regarding his alleged abduction.
Maqsood was recently a guest at the 4-day International Urdu Conference, a literary event organized by the Arts Council of Karachi in collaboration with Geo TV. During his appearance, he clarified his earlier statement and issued an apology.
The controversy arose after a video of Maqsood’s remarks at a private university went viral on social media, in which he made controversial comments about Pakistan’s military. The video quickly spread, sparking widespread discussion and leading to rumors that Maqsood had been abducted.
Actress Madihah Rizvi even took to Instagram, sharing a story asking her followers to confirm the rumors. However, Maqsood himself addressed these claims at the Karachi event, stating that the rumors were baseless and that he was safe and well.
He expressed regret over his previous comments, explaining that his intention was never to offend anyone. Maqsood further emphasized his deep respect for the Pakistan Navy, military, and all national institutions. “I have been writing for 60 years, reading books, and I could never make light of martyrs,” he said. “I am alive today because of their sacrifices, and I could never think of making such remarks.”
Maqsood reassured the audience that the allegations of his abduction were false and reaffirmed his commitment to respect and honor Pakistan’s armed forces.
