Chaman:In a grand public gathering held in Chaman’s Eidgah, Asghar Khan Achakzai, the provincial president of the Awami National Party (ANP), criticized the state’s policies and actions against the Pashtun and Baloch communities. Addressing the attendees, Achakzai denounced the state’s approach to managing the Durand Line issue and highlighted ongoing injustices faced by his community.
Achakzai emphasized that the struggle of his people is not rooted in aggression but in the quest for justice and rights. He expressed frustration over the state’s failure to adhere to promises made regarding the Durand Line, which has led to ongoing disputes and hardships. He called for the restoration of trade and travel across the Durand Line based on traditional practices, using identity cards and other historical methods.
The ANP leader pointed out the severe repression faced by various sections of society, including judges, legal professionals, politicians, religious scholars, tribal leaders, journalists, doctors, engineers, students, poets, and intellectuals. He accused the state of perpetrating violence against these groups, citing an ongoing pattern of injustice and repression.
Achakzai also condemned the treatment of peaceful protests by the Baloch Unity Committee and the assault on women participating in these demonstrations. He declared that the sacrifices of martyrs cannot be betrayed, emphasizing that personal interests and benefits should not obstruct national goals.
He reaffirmed the ANP’s stance against the violence inflicted upon Pashtuns and Balochs, labeling these acts as part of a broader plan to oppress and exploit these communities. Achakzai called attention to what he described as a disparity in anti-terror operations, noting that while operations are conducted in Pashtun and Baloch areas, the centers of terrorism are located in Punjab.
The gathering also featured speeches from other prominent figures, including ANP’s acting Secretary General Obaidullah Aabid, provincial general secretary Mabat Kaka, district president Abdul Khaliq Haqmal, and additional deputy secretary Javed Kakr. They all echoed Achakzai’s sentiments, highlighting the enduring struggle for justice and the need to honor the sacrifices made by the martyrs.
Achakzai concluded by stating that the struggle that began in August 1924 has continued up to August 2022. He stressed that the sacrifices of the martyrs would be remembered forever and reiterated the ANP’s commitment to pursuing justice and maintaining the legacy of those who have fought for their rights.
