Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman Opposes Controversial PICA Act, Calls for Media Code of Conduct

Islamabad:Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, has strongly opposed the controversial Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), stating that his party does not want any attack on press freedom. Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, he emphasized that the government should have consulted before bringing in such a law.

He reminded that similar ordinances were introduced in the past under both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) governments, specifically in 2016. Hafiz Naeem reiterated that while Jamaat-e-Islami does support the creation of a media code of conduct, it insists that everyone should follow it to curb fake news that goes against the country and religion, while ensuring that these measures do not infringe on the country’s sovereignty or freedom.

Hafiz Naeem also shared details of his recent visit to Qatar, where he met with Hamas leaders and scholars. He said that during his trip, he visited media houses and met journalists who risked their lives reporting from Gaza.

Speaking on the situation in Gaza, he declared that Israel had been defeated in Gaza. Despite the area being reduced to rubble, the Palestinians remained steadfast. He called it a victory for Hamas, the people of Gaza, and the resistance forces there.
