Actress Sahifa Jabar Defends Giving Charity to Maid Amid Social Media Criticism

Karachi:Actress and host Sahifa Jabar has taken to social media to defend her decision to give charity to her maid, following criticism from netizens after she shared details of the donation. Sahifa received backlash for discussing how the money she donated was spent, with many users questioning her actions.

In a lengthy post shared on Instagram, Sahifa expressed her frustration with those criticizing her publicly, stating that no one had the right to harass her or twist her words for personal agendas. She said, “In today’s world, earning 50,000 rupees in one day is not easy. It’s a significant amount, and wasting it is not an option.” She further explained that she wanted her maid to secure a better future, take care of her children, and ensure their education and health, emphasizing that saving money is not greed, but a matter of survival.

Sahifa also highlighted a stark contrast in society, pointing out that people often accept the lavish lifestyles of “fake influencers” on social media, who flaunt expensive bags, luxurious trips, and artificial lifestyles. However, when she talks about financial stability and responsibility, people seem to be uncomfortable.

She continued, “How many of you are ready to eliminate class differences that you often talk about? Are you ready to share a meal from the same plate with your maid? To drink from the same glass? To sit together at the same dining table? To let them wear your clothes? If not, then stop with the hypocrisy.”

The controversy arose after Sahifa shared a post where she explained that she gave 50,000 rupees to her maid as charity. However, the maid used the money to buy clothes for her family and a new bicycle for her child. Sahifa revealed that she and her mother were unhappy after finding out that the money was spent on Eid clothes and a bicycle for the child, instead of being used for what Sahifa had intended.

Sahifa expressed her disappointment, stating that it was painful to see when efforts to help less privileged people were wasted. She said, “If a person works multiple jobs and barely earns 1,000 to 1,500 rupees a day, I don’t understand how they can spend 50,000 rupees in just two days on clothes and a bicycle.”

She further revealed that the maid didn’t even have a proper bathroom ceiling, which was a basic necessity, yet her priority was to buy clothes and a bicycle. Sahifa also mentioned that she had previously given the maid several clothes and outfits, some of which were accumulated from her photoshoots.

Despite the charity being her genuine intent, Sahifa admitted to feeling regretful for giving the money to the maid and said she was unsure about how to handle the situation.

This incident sparked a debate on social media, with some users criticizing Sahifa for posting about the situation, while others argued that the maid’s decision to spend the money on her family should be celebrated. Some even suggested that Sahifa should have been happy that the money was used for her family’s needs, instead of focusing on how it was spent.
