‘I Know People Are Being Charged Money at Government Hospitals,’ Says Maryam Nawaz
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has acknowledged that people are being charged money at government hospitals, saying efforts are underway to further improve the healthcare system.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz said the institute had become operational and patients from across Pakistan could come there for treatment.
She said if other political parties had also worked like the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the country would have made greater progress by now. She stressed that serving the people should be the primary objective of every political party.
Maryam Nawaz said Allah had chosen those in positions of authority to serve the public and that it was her responsibility to make decisions for public welfare on a daily basis. She praised Dr Hasnat and other doctors for their performance.
The chief minister said people in Punjab were not only receiving free medical treatment but were also being provided medicines free of charge.
She added that funds were being established for heart transplants, noting that a heart transplant could cost at least $50,000.
Maryam Nawaz further said the provincial government was now moving toward home dialysis and would provide dialysis machines to eligible patients under the home dialysis programme.
