Wrong Identity Leaves Indian Actress Distressed as Arrest Report Goes Viral on Social Media

Mumbai: Indian actress Antra Banerjee was left deeply distressed after a case of mistaken identity led to reports about her alleged arrest being circulated on social media along with her name and photograph.

According to the actress, she first learned about the issue on Sunday morning when she was leaving for the gym. She received her first phone call about the report and said the calls continued throughout the day, with more than 400 calls reportedly reaching her.

Antra said she repeatedly had to explain to family members, friends and acquaintances that the woman named in the report was not her.

The actress said an online report initially used her name in the morning, but by evening the same story had spread across various social media platforms along with her photograph. The mistaken identity quickly began affecting both her personal and professional life.

The actual case involved a woman named Antra Soham Banerjee, who was reportedly arrested on August 12 after an alleged altercation with railway police personnel on a train and an alleged attack with a blade. An FIR was also registered in connection with the incident.

According to Antra Banerjee, she realized the mistake after details of the FIR emerged. She pointed out that the names of the two women are spelled differently and that their fathers’ names are also different. The accused woman’s father is reportedly named Soham, while the actress’s father is Subrata Banerjee.

Their residential addresses are also different. The actress lives in Jogeshwari, Andheri West, while the address mentioned in the FIR is in Thane.

Antra questioned why proper verification was not carried out before her name and photograph were published in connection with the case. She said such errors can seriously damage a person’s reputation, particularly when unverified information spreads rapidly on social media.

The actress said she is contacting the relevant people to have the false reports corrected. She is also considering filing a formal complaint and pursuing legal action for defamation to protect her reputation.

Antra wants the incorrect reports to be removed immediately or accompanied by a clear correction and clarification so that the public is aware of the facts.

She said her biggest concern is not only the impact on her career but also the distress the false reports could cause her parents and family.

Antra Banerjee has appeared in popular Indian television shows including “Bahu Begum” and “Kasautii Zindagii Kay.”
