Rain Forecast Across Sindh Raises Urban Flooding Concerns as Strong Monsoon Winds Enter Southern and Central Regions

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Sindh beginning today and continuing through July 27, warning of possible urban flooding in several districts as strong monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea enter the province’s southern and central regions.

According to the PMD, a low-pressure weather system persists over southwest Rajasthan and adjoining areas, while moisture-laden monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are affecting southern and central parts of Sindh, increasing the likelihood of intermittent rainfall over the coming days.

Rain is expected in several districts, including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Khairpur, and Dadu through July 27.

The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rainfall may lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas of Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Hyderabad, and other affected districts. Strong winds and lightning may also damage vulnerable infrastructure and weak structures.

For Karachi, the PMD has forecast mostly cloudy, hot, and humid weather conditions over the next three days. Thunderstorms accompanied by rain are expected in the city’s suburban areas today, while light rain and drizzle may occur in other parts of the metropolis.

The department added that intermittent drizzle is likely at various locations across Karachi during the next three days. The city’s maximum temperature is expected to remain between 33°C and 35°C today, while temperatures on Sunday and Monday may range between 34°C and 36°C.

Authorities have advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying areas, to remain cautious during periods of heavy rainfall and to follow official weather advisories as the monsoon system continues to influence weather conditions across Sindh.
