India Opens Salal Dam Gates After Heavy Rain in Kashmir, Flood Alert Issued Along Chenab River in Pakistan
Islamabad: Pakistani authorities have issued a high flood alert after India opened the gates of the Salal Dam following heavy rainfall in Indian-administered Kashmir, releasing a large volume of water into the Chenab River.
According to reports, India opened all the gates of the Salal Dam after intense rainfall in the region, sending a significant water flow downstream toward Pakistan.
The increased discharge has raised concerns over possible flooding in parts of Punjab, with authorities issuing a high alert for Sialkot and Wazirabad as a precaution.
The Punjab Irrigation Department said that water levels in the Chenab River have begun to rise following the release from the dam. Officials estimate that the water surge could reach Wazirabad within the next 48 hours.
