Actress Mishi Khan Criticizes Karachi’s Bicycle Ambulance Initiative, Calls It “A Joke”
Islamabad: Pakistani actress Mishi Khan has strongly criticized Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab over the introduction of a bicycle ambulance service in the city, describing the initiative as impractical for a metropolitan area.
In a video message shared on social media, Khan said launching a bicycle ambulance service in a city as large as Karachi was “a joke” and questioned its ability to provide timely emergency medical assistance.
She argued that transporting critically ill patients on a bicycle would be extremely difficult and could put lives at risk. Khan also questioned whether professional cyclists would be brought in to navigate Karachi’s narrow streets and congested neighborhoods.
According to the actress, emergency patients require fast and efficient medical transport, and a bicycle ambulance would be too slow to meet those needs.
She suggested that the city administration should instead introduce a motorbike ambulance service, saying motorcycles would be better suited to maneuver through heavy traffic and narrow lanes, allowing patients to reach nearby hospitals more quickly.
Addressing Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Khan urged him to avoid what she described as publicity-driven initiatives and instead focus on practical solutions for the city’s healthcare challenges. She also sarcastically remarked that he should “start a comedy show” rather than introduce measures she believes are ineffective.
The comments reflect Mishi Khan’s personal views on the bicycle ambulance initiative. Karachi’s city administration has promoted the service as a means of improving emergency access in congested and hard-to-reach areas.
