Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Jordan, Announces Closure of Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN:Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for a missile strike targeting US military facilities at Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, saying the attack involved multiple ballistic missiles.

According to an IRGC spokesperson, the operation destroyed the base’s command and control center as well as hangars housing MQ-9 drones.

The developments come amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following recent US military strikes on Iranian targets.

Bahrain’s Interior Ministry confirmed that warning sirens had sounded in the country, while the United Arab Emirates said its air defense systems were actively intercepting missiles and drones launched from Iran.

Qatar’s Ministry of Defense also stated that it had successfully thwarted a missile attack aimed at the country.

Iranian state media further reported that Tehran has ordered the indefinite closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC said warning shots were fired at a vessel attempting to pass through what it described as an unauthorized route.

In a statement, the IRGC declared that no ships would be allowed to transit the strategic waterway until further notice and warned that any hostile action under the pretext of the incident would be met with a strong response.

No independent confirmation of Iran’s claims regarding the strike on the US base or the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has been issued at this stage.
