Norway Stun Five-Time Champions Brazil to Reach FIFA World Cup 2026 Quarter-Finals

Norway produced one of the biggest upsets of the FIFA World Cup 2026 by defeating five-time world champions Brazil 2-1 in the Round of 16, securing a historic place in the quarter-finals for the first time.
The match, played in New Jersey, saw Norway dominate the closing stages as star striker Erling Haaland scored twice. Haaland broke the deadlock in the 79th minute before adding his second goal in the 90th minute to put Norway firmly in control.
Brazil managed to pull one goal back deep into stoppage time when Neymar converted a penalty, but it was not enough to prevent the South American giants from crashing out of the tournament.
The historic 2-1 victory sent Norway into the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals for the first time, ending Brazil’s hopes of winning a sixth world title.

After the final whistle, Norway’s players celebrated passionately with thousands of fans inside the stadium. Head coach Stale Solbakken led the celebrations before the squad performed a traditional post-match victory ceremony. Match-winner Haaland took charge of beating the ceremonial drum, creating a memorable atmosphere throughout the stadium.

On the other hand, Brazil’s elimination left Neymar visibly emotional, with the veteran forward in tears after seeing his World Cup dream come to an end.
Norway will now face either England national football team or Mexico national football team in the quarter-finals.
