Islamabad: Former Senate Chairman and Pakistan Peoples Party leader Raza Rabbani has condemned the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Akhtar Mengal under the Anti-Terrorism Act. In a statement, Rabbani asserted that it is not the role of the parliament to file criminal cases against its members.
Rabbani emphasized that the Senate Secretariat should not have any involvement in what he described as a false FIR. He recalled a previous raid on Mengal’s residence and urged the government to promote political harmony and heal divisions. He stated that political fragmentation is detrimental to the democratic process and sends a negative message for Balochistan.
Highlighting the ongoing political instability and incidents of terrorism in Balochistan, Rabbani called for a national political dialogue as an urgent necessity.
