LPG Prices Soar Across Punjab as Consumers Allege Widespread Overcharging

Lahore: Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices have surged across Punjab, with consumers reporting that retailers are charging well above the government-approved rate, placing additional financial pressure on low- and middle-income households.
According to media reports, the Government of Pakistan has fixed the official LPG price at Rs308 per kilogram. However, market sources say retailers in Lahore and several other cities across Punjab are selling LPG for Rs480 to Rs500 per kilogram, significantly exceeding the notified rate.
Market sources also claim that many shopkeepers are increasing prices by Rs10 to Rs20 per kilogram on a daily basis without official authorization. Consumers allege that weak market enforcement has allowed retailers to continue overcharging despite the existence of government price regulations.
The sharp rise in LPG prices has made it increasingly difficult for many households to refill gas cylinders, particularly at a time when natural gas load-shedding has forced more families to rely on LPG for cooking and other domestic needs.
Residents have expressed concern that official price lists are not being enforced in practice, leaving consumers at the mercy of retailers. They have urged the Punjab government and district administrations to launch an immediate crackdown on profiteering and ensure the sale of LPG at officially notified prices.
No official response from the relevant authorities regarding the reported market prices had been issued at the time of reporting.
