Petrol and Diesel Prices Remain High Despite Recent Cuts, Levy Burden Persists in Pakistan

Islamabad: Despite recent reductions in petroleum prices, petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) remain expensive, with the petroleum levy burden continuing to impact consumers, according to official data.
Over the past 36 days, the government has adjusted fuel prices multiple times, recording three increases and three decreases in both petrol and diesel rates. However, prices are still significantly higher compared to five weeks ago.
Official statistics show that during this period, the price of high-speed diesel initially increased by Rs61.16 per litre. Although it was later reduced by Rs33.80 per litre, a net increase of Rs27.36 per litre still remains.
The frequent fluctuations in fuel prices have kept overall costs elevated, while the petroleum levy on consumers has not been withdrawn, adding to financial pressure on the public.
