LESCO Orders Removal of Dual Power Source Connections Within One Week After Fatal Incident

LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has launched a major crackdown on illegal and hazardous dual power source connections following a recent fatal incident involving a line worker.

According to officials, the Chief Executive Officer of LESCO has issued strict directives ordering the immediate removal of all such connections within one week across the city.

The power utility stated that using two different feeders or power sources for a single premises is highly dangerous and poses a serious risk to both consumers and field staff.

LESCO officials said the operation will be carried out without any discrimination, and inspections will be conducted in government housing colonies, residences of officials, as well as commercial and residential areas across Lahore.

The recent directive follows an unfortunate incident in Mustafa Abad, where a line worker was injured due to an illegal dual-source connection, prompting urgent safety measures.

The CEO warned that strict departmental action, including dismissal from service, would be taken against relevant XENs and SDOs if any future incident occurs due to negligence in removing such connections. He further emphasized that no political or influential pressure will be entertained during the operation.

However, officials clarified that certain critical installations such as major government hospitals, the Governor House, and the Chief Minister House may be exempted under controlled and legally sanctioned independent feeder systems to ensure uninterrupted power supply during emergencies.

LESCO reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring public safety and eliminating hazardous electrical setups across its service areas.
