28th Amendment aimed at changing constitutional structure to eliminate PTI and Imran Khan, claims Sher Afzal Marwat

ISLAMABAD (Kuwait News Desk) — Member of Parliament Sher Afzal Marwat has alleged that the proposed 28th constitutional amendment is being used as a pretext to completely alter Pakistan’s constitutional framework with the objective of politically weakening Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its founder Imran Khan.

Speaking to the media, Sher Afzal Marwat claimed that the ongoing political developments are centered around efforts to marginalize PTI and remove Imran Khan from the political landscape.

He said that in April 2024, Imran Khan had appointed him as chairman of a protest committee, but the decision was reversed within two days on the instructions of Shibli Faraz, adding that had the decision remained in place, the protest movement would have remained under party control.

Marwat stated that protest leadership should rest with the designated committee rather than government-linked officials. He also said he had taken initiative during a difficult period when few others were active, adding that he was not granted political positions as a favor from the party.

He criticized internal party decisions, saying that some individuals had organized efforts against him, which he believes caused harm to the party instead of strengthening it.

Despite differences, he reiterated that he still stands with PTI and Imran Khan.

He further claimed that certain decisions within the party were poorly thought out and that experienced members are often discarded at critical times, which he described as a strategic mistake.
