Sharjeel Memon Announces Major Relief for Karachiites, Speaks on Drug Dealer Arrest

Karachi: Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced major infrastructure developments for Karachi, including the opening of Shahrah-e-Bhutto later this month and the launch of a new road project connecting Karachi Port to Taj Haider Bridge.
Addressing a press conference, the senior Sindh minister said Shahrah-e-Bhutto would be fully opened to traffic within the current month, enabling citizens to travel directly to the motorway and significantly improving commuting facilities for residents of the city.
Sharjeel Memon further revealed that work on a major road project from Karachi Port to Taj Haider Bridge would begin soon, adding that the foundation stone for the scheme would be laid shortly.
Speaking about the Red Line BRT project, he acknowledged that citizens had faced difficulties due to delays in construction. He said the government had attempted to complete the project quickly, but the original contractor failed to deliver, prompting authorities to hand over the project to another contractor. He also apologized to the public for the inconvenience caused by the delays.
The minister stated that during the recent visit of Asif Ali Zardari to China, several memorandums of understanding were signed for projects related to clean drinking water, agriculture, and livestock.
Commenting on the arrest of a female drug dealer, Sharjeel Memon said efforts had previously been made to arrest the woman during his tenure as minister, but those attempts were unsuccessful. He said the suspect has now been arrested and law enforcement agencies should be encouraged for their action.
He added that any negligence regarding the suspect’s court appearance had been taken seriously, noting that police remand had been obtained and the accused remains in custody.
The Sindh information minister reiterated that the provincial government is committed to eliminating narcotics from the province through effective measures.
He also commented on media freedom in Sindh, claiming that the province offers comparatively greater freedom to media outlets than other regions. Addressing concerns related to the Public Service Commission, he urged individuals with evidence of irregularities to file complaints with the relevant forums, assuring that action would be taken if proof is provided.
Sharjeel Memon further said that it is not wrong if the children of government officers also become officers, as every parent tries to provide better education and opportunities to their children. However, he invited critics to present evidence if they believe anyone was selected unfairly.
He also paid tribute to former national leaders for their role in Pakistan’s nuclear program, stating that the foundations of the program were laid long before many current politicians entered politics and that national leaders made sacrifices for the country’s progress.
