Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif Announces Progress on Inflation and IMF Conditions

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has reported that the burden of inflation is gradually easing, with the inflation rate dropping to single digits in August, compared to nearly 27 percent in August of the previous year. Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting, Sharif emphasized the need to eliminate corruption in revenue collection, combat smuggling, and ensure right-sizing and downsizing measures while reducing circular debt.
Sharif stated that reducing expenditures and creating effective job opportunities remain top priorities. He acknowledged that while the path to development is challenging, it is not impossible if the government remains focused on its goals and moves beyond mere rhetoric to actionable steps.
The Prime Minister also highlighted Pakistan’s ample resources and intellectual capital, affirming the country’s commitment to meeting all IMF conditions. He expressed hope that a new IMF program would be secured but stressed that this should be the last program, aiming for the nation to stand independently on its own feet.
