Islamabad Announces New Market Closing Schedule, Shops to Shut at 8 PM

Islamabad: The district administration of Islamabad has decided to maintain restrictions on business timings, issuing a revised schedule under which all shops, markets, and shopping malls across the city will close at 8 PM daily, including weekends.
According to an official notification, the decision has been taken in continuation of previously implemented orders and will remain in effect until further notice.
Authorities stated that the move aims to regulate market timings in the federal capital while ensuring public convenience. However, several essential services have been exempted from the restrictions.
Medical stores, hospitals, and laboratories will remain open as usual. Similarly, petrol pumps, CNG stations, milk shops, bakeries, and tandoors will continue operations to ensure uninterrupted access to basic necessities.
The notification further states that hotels, restaurants, and other food outlets will be allowed to operate until 10 PM. However, takeaway and home delivery services will remain unaffected and can continue beyond these hours.
It also clarifies that the same timings will apply to weddings and events held in residential homes and farmhouses, which must conclude within the prescribed schedule.
The district administration warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators of the new timings.
Meanwhile, the decision has received mixed reactions from citizens and traders. While some have welcomed the move, calling it useful for energy conservation and better discipline, members of the business community have expressed concerns over potential financial losses due to reduced operating hours.
