Survey Reveals 73% of Pakistanis Never Had to Pay Bribes

Islamabad (Qudrat Roznama): The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has released the results of a survey on transparency and accountability in Pakistan.
The survey revealed that a majority of citizens, 67%, reported not encountering corruption. Five percent said they had witnessed government officials illegally enriching themselves, while 73% stated that they had never been asked to pay a bribe.
The report highlighted a clear difference between public perception and personal experience regarding corruption. While 68% of respondents believed that bribery is common in government institutions, only 27% said they had personally been asked for a bribe. Similarly, 56% believed nepotism is prevalent in public offices, but 24% reported personally experiencing situations where nepotism undermined merit.
FPCCI stated that the purpose of the survey is to establish a transparency and accountability index for the country. Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal remarked that a political group had spread negative propaganda for political gain, emphasizing that the survey aimed to reach accurate facts and that significant measures have been taken to eliminate corruption.
