Contempt of Court Petition Filed Against Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz and Minister Azma Bukhari in Lahore High Court

Lahore: A contempt of court petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court against Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Provincial Minister Azma Bukhari.
The petition was submitted by a citizen, Munir Ahmed, through Advocate Azhar Siddique. It contends that critical and public statements made regarding the Lahore High Court’s order on the Punjab Property Ownership Act amount to contempt of court.
According to the petitioner, the statements issued after the suspension of the property law have undermined the credibility and authority of the judiciary. The petition argues that attempts were made to make the court controversial through public remarks by the Chief Minister, and that portraying the court’s decision as being in favor of land mafias constitutes a serious allegation that goes against judicial dignity.
The petitioner further maintained that giving a political color to a judicial verdict is an unlawful act, and such statements by high-ranking government officials could adversely affect the judicial process.
The petition requests the Lahore High Court to issue show-cause notices to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Minister Azma Bukhari and to initiate formal contempt of court proceedings against them.
It also urges the court to take immediate action to safeguard the dignity of the judiciary and uphold the supremacy of the law.
