Sydney Beach Shooting: Police Identify Attackers as Father and Son

Islamabad:Australian police have revealed that the attackers involved in the deadly shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney were a father and son, as authorities released further details of the incident.

During a press conference, New South Wales Police stated that the two attackers opened fire during a Jewish event at Bondi Beach. One of the attackers was killed in a police counter-operation, while the other remains in critical condition.

According to the NSW Police Commissioner, the deceased attacker has been identified as **50-year-old Sajid Akram**, while the injured attacker is his **24-year-old son, Naveed Akram**.

Police confirmed that Sajid Akram had held a firearms license for the past 10 years and was also a member of a gun club. Six weapons were recovered from his possession; however, investigations are ongoing to determine which of these firearms were used in the attack.

Authorities also reported the discovery of **two active improvised explosive devices (IEDs)** near the crime scene, which were safely secured by bomb disposal units.

Police announced that the search for additional suspects has been concluded, clarifying that there were no more attackers involved. However, investigations are continuing to determine the motives behind what has been described as a terrorist attack.

The police commissioner added that the father and son had been residing in Australia for a considerable period, but further background details could not be disclosed at this stage.

Meanwhile, the Australian government has declared **a national day of mourning**, with national flags to be flown at half-mast on government buildings.

It may be recalled that armed assailants opened fire on civilians at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, killing **16 people** and injuring **40 others**. During the police response, one attacker was shot dead, while the second was arrested in an injured condition.
