UK Magazine Alleges Former Intelligence Chief Used Bushra Bibi for Influence

Islamabad: A recent report by the British magazine *The Economist* has alleged that former intelligence chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed sought to use Bushra Bibi, wife of PTI founder Imran Khan, for influence within the political landscape.

According to the report, although the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) did not arrange the marriage between Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, there were indications that the institution was benefiting from their relationship. The article claims that several senior officials — including former Army Chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa — had complained that Imran Khan relied excessively on his wife’s counsel.

The report further links the 2019 removal of then–ISI Director General Lt Gen Asim Munir to Bushra Bibi, alleging that she objected to him after he presented evidence of her alleged corruption to Imran Khan.

*The Economist* also stated that some PTI leaders believe Bushra Bibi could play a key role in bringing Imran Khan toward reconciliation with the military, noting her inclination toward compromise. However, according to individuals close to Imran Khan, hardline elements within PTI — including his sister Aleema Khan — strongly oppose any reconciliation efforts.
