Opposition Has Accepted Majority of 27th Amendment Provisions, Says Senator Pervaiz Rashid

ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator **Pervaiz Rashid** has said that the **opposition has effectively accepted most parts of the 27th Constitutional Amendment**, as their speeches in the Senate focused only on **judiciary-related clauses**.
Speaking during the Senate session, Senator Rashid remarked that **opposition senator Ali Zafar** presented “only one side of the picture — the one he liked,” ignoring the side “where the judiciary was turned into a political tool.”
He added, *“Some judges hid a political party’s flag beneath their robes and served its interests. It is now essential to reform the system.”*
Senator Rashid reiterated that since the opposition debated only the judiciary-related point, it implied **consensus on all other proposed changes** in the constitutional amendment.
Meanwhile, **Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar** stated in his Senate address that the **concept of constitutional courts** was first proposed in the **Charter of Democracy (CoD)** signed in **2006 in London** by **Benazir Bhutto** and **Nawaz Sharif**. He added that the **founder of PTI, Imran Khan**, had also endorsed the CoD, along with other political leaders including **Maulana Fazlur Rehman** and **Asfandyar Wali Khan**.
In a related speech, **PML-N Senator Afnan Ullah Khan** criticized the opposition’s stance, saying, *“The judiciary that violated the Constitution to support you was acceptable to you then. Saqib Nisar and Umar Ata Bandial made decisions by forming benches with their friends — was that judiciary fair?”*
