Religious Leader Urges Moral Reform, Says Dishonesty Behind Muslims’ Decline

Quetta:Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani, leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Rehbar, has called for a collective moral revival among Muslims, warning that the habit of lying and hypocrisy is the primary cause of the community’s humiliation and suffering.

Speaking at a turban-tying ceremony at the Bait al-Uloom Islami madrassa in Nawan Kali, Quetta, Maulana Sherani referenced the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad and argued that a nation’s character determines its governance. “If a people become habitually dishonest, treacherous and selfish, their rulers will reflect the same traits,” he said, urging followers to change their communal conduct to secure just and righteous leadership.

Maulana Sherani emphasized that aligning personal and social conduct with the guidance of the Quran fosters closeness among people, strengthens bonds between Creator and creation, and brings unity between humanity and the wider universe. “The Quran is a means to create nearness and harmony — not division and discord,” he said.

He warned that using personal opinions and differences as a pretext for confrontation will deepen divisions across the Muslim community. Instead, he advocated inviting people toward universally accepted good deeds and collectively discouraging widely recognized harms. Such an approach, he said, would prevent social fragmentation and address moral weaknesses and failings.
